In addition to the Victory Task Force and the 2016 Delegate Selection Plan Workshop, the DNC’s Winter Meeting on February 19-21 had the usual activities of meeting and learning from Democrats around the world, including regional and constituency group caucus sessions. I am glad that many Virginia Democrats could join us.
The highlights certainly included an address from President Obama Friday morning that focused on economic recovery and helping the middle class. You can see it here.
We also celebrated the selection of the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection as the location for the 2016 convention. The last time Democrats met in Philadelphia was in 1948 – “Give ‘em Hell Hilary!” (not an endorsement). We plan to arrive by train so stay tuned – even if you are not a delegate, there are lots of things you can do and its only 2 hours up the tracks.
The DNC also adopted the resolutions set forth below, including one supporting a Constitutional Right to Vote.
The most active component of the DNC is the Association of State Democratic Chairs, which elected new officers this year. Raymond Buckley (NH) was re-elected ASDC President, Yvette Lewis (MD) was re-elected Secretary, and Alex Rooker (CA) was re-elected Treasurer. The ASDC is composed of each state’s party chair, first vice chair, and Executive Director. Virginia is in the Southern Region and our own DPVA Vice Chair Gayelene Kanoyton was elected Southern regional Vice Chair. Other Southern officers elected were Karen Carter Peterson (LA) Southern Vice President, Rickey Cole (MS) Southern Regional Chair, and Jaime Harrison (SC) DNC Executive Committee Southern Representative
The DNC Summer meeting will be in Minneapolis, MN, on August 27-29, 2015.
