DPVA Meetings this Weekend – 2013 Primary Vote

  • by

The Democratic Party of Virginia Steering and Central Committees will meet in Fredericksburg on Friday night and Saturday morning.   See this recent post for more details.   Business will include selection of a nomination process for our 2013 candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General, and I will propose a primary (instead of a convention).   A primary will provide for maximum participation by Virginia’s Democratic voters.  Moreover, in a year with potentially multiple candidates for at least two of the three statewide offices, a caucus/convention process is just unworkable.  I will also offer resolutions regarding the two Virginia Constitutional Amendments that are on the ballot this fall, opposing additional eminent domain restrictions and supporting flexible scheduling for the General Assembly veto session.  The Women’s Caucus is also meeting and holding several contested elections – it is great to see so many women coming forth to seek leadership positions.
