I have heard that George Rawlings passed away yesterday in Fredericksburg. George was an extraordinary guy – member of the House of Delegates, defeated “Judge” Smith, the conservative Democcratic Congressman (Va-8) who bottled up civil rights legislation, Democratic standard-bearer against Harry Byrd in the 1970 Senate race, 8th District Democratic Commitee chair, Member of the DNC, and much much more. I’ll post additional details on George and post information re a memorial service when I receive it. We will miss him.
