Virginia March 2012 Primary Bill Passes Both Houses

  • by

Just in time for the DPVA meeting which will consider a presidential primary resolution, the House of Delegates yesterday by a vote of 97-1 passed the Senate bill,  SB 1246, to  move Virginia’s presidential primary date from the second Tuesday in February to the first Tuesday in March, for 2012 and going forward.  The companion House bill, HB 1843, was also reported out of Senate P&E (10-1).  Governor McDonnell is expected to sign the bill, so pencil in March 6, 2012 on your calendar.  As noted in prior posts on this issue this breaks up the “Potomac Primary” but Virginia still might find a couple of partners.  See also Rosalind Helderman’s recent Washington Post Virginia Politics post.
