At yesterday’s state Democratic Convention, delegates from around the Commonwealth heard speeches from party leaders, elected national convention delegates, chose electors, and elected four members to the DNC. DNC Unity Team female members Mame Reiley and Doris Crouse-Mays were elected without opposition and male members Frank Leone and Vice-Mayor George Wallace also were elected. The male election initially had six candidates and required a 50% + 1 majority. I was elected on the first ballot and George came very close, but then third place candidate Del. Lionell Spruill very graciously withdrew, as did the other candidates, resulting in George’s election. See Patch article.
We very much appreciate all the support, encouragement, endorsements (here and here), and votes you all provided to the team and to me. In particular, we were honored to be endorsed by Virginia’s three Democratic Congressmen – Hon. Gerry Connolly, Hon. Jim Moran, and Hon. Bobby Scott, and to be nominated by State Sen. Mamie Locke of Hampton.
I appreciate the opportunity I have had over the past few months to speak with Democrats from across the Commonwealth about how to expand and improve our party, and win elections for our Democratic candidates. I look forward to serving Virginia Democrats for another term on the DNC – I will continue providing useful information on www.DemRulz.Org and look forward to hearing from you.
