The House Privileges & Elections Committee yesterday unanimously (22-0) reported the House bill which will move Virginia’s presidential primary date from the second Tuesday in February to the first Tuesday in March, for 2012 and going forward. HB 1843 (Del. Cole, Patron). The bill appears to be identical to the bill the State Senate unanimously passed earlier in the week. SB 1246 (Sen. Vogel, Patron). The date for “cross-over,” when each house considers the other’s bills, is February 8, 2011. Virginia appears to be well on the way to a DNC/RNC-compliant (albeit early) Presidential Primary date for 2012.
