The Democratic Party of Virginia and Organizing for America-Virginia put on a very useful four-hour training today at George Mason University. About 150 people attending including long time party and OFA activists, as well as people new to the area or new to politics. Sessions were led by DPVA and OFA staff including Brandyn Keating and Don Mark, but the sessions were mostly workshop format and a great many people discussed best practices. Topics included organization building, local committee activities, GOTV, voter contact, and earned media. It was interesting to see the different approaches of party and community activists. I don’t think I have ever actually crafted my “personal story” before; it needs work. But it was all good – DPVA and OFA-VA are at most two sides of the same coin, and many people are active in both. I look forward to additional training including more in-depth focus on the topics and local sessions.
I did not make it. Paying for parking was really the problem. Another senior citizen and i could not afford it and gas is pretty high. Glad it was good, Maybe it coudl be given nearby in the future or at least passed down somewhat in another meeting.
