DPVA Committees Meet this Weekend

The Democratic Party of Virginia Steering and Central Committees will hold their quarterly meetings this weekend in Richmond.  These will be the first meetings in a long time without 11th District Chair George Burke, and we will miss him greatly.  Steering meets Friday, Dec 4., 7:30 pm, at the SunTrust Building, 919 E Main St,, Piedmont Room (4th Floor), Richmond, VA 23219 and Central meets Saturday, Dec. 5, 9:30 am, in the River City Ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn – Downtown, 501 E. Broad Street
Richmond, VA 23219.  The Committees will discuss plans for 2016 and hear from Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam.

We will adopt a Call to the 2016 State Convention (draft below).  The DPVA filed to have a primary by yesterday’s deadline, and that March 1 primary will allocate the delegates among the presidential candidates.  The state convention (and congressional district conventions) will then elect national delegates for candidates reflecting the primary results.  Unlike the RPV, Democrats will NOT require a loyalty oath to vote in the March 1 primary.  We will be getting more information out about the delegate selection process, but we already have materials available at the DPVA website here.

The Committees will also consider some party plan amendments regarding virtual meetings and residence of local party officers and a Clean Power resolution (below).

There will also be a couple of events – the LGBT Caucus will be hosting the Equality Breakfast at 7:30 AM in the Amethyst Room at the Hilton. There may be few tickets left so purchase here to get yours.   There will be a celebration of the the 10th anniversary of Tim Kaine’s election as the 70th Governor of Virginia.  Tickets to the event at 6:00 pm at the Science Museum of Virginia 2500 West Broad St. can be purchased here!
