DPVA Central Committee Ends Term

  • by

The 2005-2009 Democratic Party of Virginia State Central Committee wrapped up its business in connection with Jefferson-Jackson Day Weekend on February 7, 2009 in Richmond.  It has been a very successful four years for the party which saw the election of Governor Kaine, Senators Webb and Warner, a Democratic majority in the Virginia’s Congressional delegation, a Democratic majority in Virginia’s State Senate, and a narrowing of the GOP majority in the State House.  Secretary Pixie Bell, who has been keeping the Committee straight for 16 years announced her retirement.  Treasurer Jim Turpin, who over the past four years, has had extraordinary success in raising money, spearheaded the party’s purchase of its Richmond headquarters, and kept members informed of progress also announced that he would not seek reelection.  They will both be deeply missed, but we know that they will remain active Democrats.  Other officers have not announced their plans.  A new Central Committee will be elected this spring and will elect new party officers in June.
