DNC RBC Considers Early State Proposals

The Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee met in San Juan, Puerto Rico on January 30, 2026 to consider state’s proposals for delegate selection contests to be held early – prior to the opening of the window on March 7, 2028.  Twelve states submitted proposal and the RBC invited them all to make oral presentations at an upcoming meeting, at which time the RBC will recognize four or five states for early contests, with at least one state from each region.  The states are:  EAST – New Hampshire and Delaware; SOUTH – Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee,  and Virginia; MIDWEST – Illinois, Iowa (the only caucus state), and Michigan; WEST – Nevada and New Mexico.  All of the proposals were good, but states will have to show that it is feasible for them to hold the contest (e.g. Georgia needs the Secretary of State to set the primary date).  You can watch the meeting here.
