The Virginia Democratic Party will hold its quarterly meetings and Jefferson-Jackson Dinner and related events this weekend. The Party’s State Steering Committee will meet Friday night at 7:30 pm, Central Committee at Saturday at 10:00 am, and Saturday caucus meetings as listed below. Saturday’s Events include the Women’s Caucus Breakfast at 8:15 am, Awards Lunch at 12:30 pm, and the J-J Dinner, featuring President Bill Clinton!, at 7:00 pm. Contact the DPVA for event ticket information (they have been going fast). Brian Moran is also holding a breakfast Sunday morning. There are usually hospitality suites hosted by Statewide candidates as well.
The primary committee business is to adopt an allocation formula for our upcoming District Conventions that will elect the new State Central Committee. We will provide additional details as the spring progresses, but the State Central Committee is the state equivalent of the Democratic National Committee. It is composed of 20 elected members from each congressional district, plus three city/county chairs, and one general assembly member per district, and caucus and state party offices. The Congressional District Conventions in May will elect the 20 members, and the State Central Committee in June will elect the state party officers. Attached are links to the proposed allocation formulas and guidance for the process.
