#DPVA Submits 2016 Delegate Selection Plan to DNC

The Democratic Party of Virginia has timely submitted its 2016 Democratic National Convention Delegate Selection Plan to the Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee.  The plan follows the approach of recent plans – a March 1, 2016 primary will allocate delegates among presidential candidates, and localities will then hold caucuses to elect delegates to congressional district conventions and a state convention, which, in turn will elect the national convention delegates.  The basic approach was adopted by the DPVA State Central Committee meeting in March and the final plan was approved by the Steering Committee.  DPVA’s press release is below.  We also have an updated brochure, and, thanks to DLOV, a brochure in spanish.  Let me know if you have questions and stay tuned for more information on the process and our outreach efforts.

May 7, 2015 – Democratic Party of Virginia Formally Approves 2016 Delegate Selection Plan

The Steering Committee of the Democratic Party of Virginia has formally approved the 2016 Delegate Selection Plan. This plan outlines the process to be used by the Democratic Party of Virginia in selecting delegates for the National Convention, scheduled to take place in Philadelphia on July 25–28, 2016.

The plan received overwhelming support from the DPVA’s Steering Committee on Friday, May 1st and was submitted to the Democratic National Committee for approval on May 4th, in accordance with the Rules and Bylaws Committee of the DNC.

The Democratic Party of Virginia called for a Presidential Preference Primary to be held on March 1, 2016 to determine the allocation of State and National Convention delegates. Cities and counties will hold caucuses April 16 – 18, 2016 to elect delegates and alternates to Congressional District conventions and the State Convention. These delegates and alternates will attend Congressional District conventions in May, 2016 and choose district level delegates and alternates. The same state delegates and alternates will attend a State Convention in June, 2016 to elect National Convention delegates and alternates.

“We are proud to have delivered our delegate selection plan to the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee in a timely fashion,” said DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker. “Virginia is a key battleground state. I hope Democrats will participate at every level of this process as we look to make a difference and elect another Democrat to the White House in 2016.”

English and Spanish summaries of the plan, including a step-by-step guide to becoming a delegate, are available on the DPVA website.
