DPVA Convention – our work is done. (for this weekend)

Thanks to all who made the Democratic Party of Virginia’s convention weekend a success, including DPVA Chair Susan Swecker,  the DPVA staff, volunteers, elected officials, candidates, state party officers and committee members, delegates, alternates, guests, and facility staff.  The 2016 convention went relatively smoothly with the election of National convention delegates, at large Electors, and Democratic National Committee members, and adoption of a comprehensive resolutions report, and inspiring speeches from Governor McAuliffe and other elected officials.

I am grateful to have the opportunity to continue to represent Virginia Democrats on the DNC.  I look forward to continuing to work with Doris Crouse-Mays and welcome new members Jasmine Taub, Atima Omara, and Steve Cochran.  I thank George Wallace. Sandra Brandt, and Lionell Spruill for their past and continuing service to the Democratic Party.

The at-large electors were Susan Rowland and Terry Frye.  You can find the list of national convention delegates here.  And here is the DPVA Resolutions Committee Report.

The weekend also featured a number of excellent events, including the very successful JJ Dinner, featuring Secretary of Labor Tom Perez, a reception co-sponsored by the Democratic Asian Americans of Virginia and the Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia on Friday night, the Democratic Women’s Caucus breakfast  Saturday morning, the Virginia Young Democrats JJ After Dark event Saturday night, the Democratic Black Caucus Gospel Brunch featuring a fascinating discussion of faith and politics and current issues with Del. Cia Price, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, and Rev. Tim Boddie, as well as good times at the Marriott bar, including a visit with Dick Gregory.

Stay tuned for more posts on the Road to Philadelphia for the National Democratic Convention.
