DPVA Chairman’s Report – April 18, 2011

  • by

I am glad that he’s doing this kind of report, traveling the Commonwealth, spreading the message, building organization, and  raising money.  Here is Chairman Brian Moran’s Report:

Articulating a View of Virginia’s Future: Last Sunday I began a regular series of Op-Ed columns in the Virginia Pilot, advancing our message of equal opportunity and job creation.  I’ve received great feedback on this style of communication and will be looking to do more of this in the future.

Fundraising Success:  Last week I was able to visit our headquarters in Richmond and work the phones to raise money.  I’m pleased to report that the commitments I received have started paying off, with over $12,000 dollars of new revenue coming in this week.  In addition to my call time, the DPVA is receiving an unprecedented response to our recent online Membership Drive.

Upcoming Political Travel:  This Saturday I attended one of my favorite events of the year, the Equality Virginia Dinner in Richmond.  I’m so proud to have sat with the new members of our DPVA LGBT Caucus, a first for our party.   In addition here are some events I plan on attending around the state:
–       Wednesday, April 20: Naral Pro-Choice Virginia Legislative Debriefing
–       Wednesday, April 27: Keynote Staunton JJ Dinner
–       Thursday, April 28: Remarks at Kickoff of Babur Lateef Campaign
–       Thursday, May 5: Keynote Page County JJ Dinner
–       Saturday, May 21: Keynote Prince William County JJ Dinner

Coordinating on 2011 and 2012 with OFA:  On Wednesday I had the opportunity to sit down with Brandyn Keating and speak in detail about how the state party and OFA can partner together on a variety of election activities.  In particular we talked about how impactful our coordination could be on races for the State Senate and House of Delegates, where 5 or 10 votes can be the margin.  I think we have created a really strong relationship with OFA through our regional training partnership, and I am positive that based on these conversations we are going to do big things in 2011.

The Virginia Grassroots Summit is Moving Forward:  At our last meeting of the Steering Committee we discussed briefly a new event we are bringing into existence this year called the Virginia Grassroots Summit.  This event will provide a full weekend of high level trainings, discussions, and briefings that will give our activists, chairs, candidates, and elected officials the tools they need to run and win elections.  We will also be having high-level discussions about issues and messaging for the coming elections.  This has never been done before in Virginia, and you aren’t going to want to miss it.  Please save July 15th, 16th, and 17th for this exciting event – more details coming soon.

Sincerely,

Brian Moran, Chairman
