This weekend, the Democratic Party of Virginia’s State Central Committee will meet at the downtown Richmond Marriott. On Saturday, from 1-2 PM, Ed Turner will present DisAbility Awareness Training. I was lucky enough to attend Ed’s presentation to the Central Committee a few years back — this is a great training opportunity that will help you gain a greater understanding of myths about constituents with disabilities; talents and skills of constituents with disabilities; why constituents with disabilities should be recruited on local committees and as campaign volunteers; and why constituents with disabilities should be cultivated as a serious voting block. It will help you with outreach to the disAbility community for the Democratic Party, and, perhaps more importantly, bring you greater awareness that in some small way may change your life.
