The Democratic National Committee (DNC) held its first meeting of the year at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington DC today. The DNC elected officers, adopted committee reports, and heard from Vice President Biden. Highlights: Virginia has three new DNC members – The Virginia State Party Chair and highest-ranking-Vice-Chair-of-the-opposite-gender are automatically members of the DNC. A week to go until President Obama’s inauguration on Monday, January 21! The weather is supposed to be cold, but probably not as freezing as four years ago; we can only hope. Here are some updates. I will be posting more as they become available.
- Official Inaugural Ball tickets – haven’t gone out yet, and this year there will be only two official balls (plus a military ball), a reduction from 10 four years ago (and the fewest balls since Eisenhower). All the more reason to head to the Democratic Party of Virginia Inaugural Ball at the Westin in Ballston (Arlington) on January 20th and the Democratic Black Caucus of Virginia 47% Inaugural Ball in Chantilly on January 19th.
- Also, there is the Italian-American Democratic Leadership Council Event on January 20 at Carmines in DC.
